Meet Our Assistant Director, A.C. Brooke

A.C. Brooke joined Silent War: Asian American Reckonings with Mental Health in the fall of 2021 as a student in Dr. Changfu Chang’s documentary filmmaking class—but her connection to the project began even earlier, during remote learning in 2020 when she first met Dr. Chang after transferring to Millersville University.

Since then, A.C.’s role has grown into a deeply collaborative one. Credited as the assistant director, a co-producer, and an additional camera operator, she also helps the film’s marketing and social media efforts, designed the official poster, and provided feedback on the script. With a background in writing, design, and photography, she helped shape the emotional landscape of the film through both creative and technical contributions.

Now serving as Creative Director at WAVES, A.C. continues to center mental health, memory, and accessibility in her work. Her upcoming debut documentary, Paper Birds, explores recovered memories and the delayed onset of PTSD.

Reflecting on her time with Silent War, she shares: “It’s been such an honor to work on this project. There’s such a need to amplify AAPI voices, especially in the wake of the uptick in discrimination during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. I can’t wait till we get to share this transformative piece with the world.”
